Q :
Do cushion specifications work with this system?
A :
Yes. The LocPlate® products can be specified with a cushion that is ultrasonically welded to the underside of the Hook Plates and Discs. TacFast currently offers a 1/4" and a 3/8" closed-cell polyethylene cushion for use with the system.

Q :
How do changes in atmospheric conditions and relative humidity affect the TacFast System?
A :
Atmospheric conditions and relative humidity should not affect the TacFast System. Hook Plates and Discs are molded with Polypropylene, a material that does not absorb moisture. The gaps between the locked Hook Plates and Discs are designed to accommodate for the thermal expansion and contraction the Hook Plates will experience when exposed to various temperatures.

Q :
How does subfloor moisture affect the system?
A :
A moist concrete surface does not negatively impact the installation, the quality and/or the lifetime of the LocPlate® products. The combination of the moisture and the polyprppoylene (the material in the Hook Plates and Discs) will not contribute to degradation in the concrete; in fact, polypropylene does not react with either water or concrete. The LocPlate® products work as a water and (with some limitations) as a vapor barrier. Vapor or moisture that is migrating through the concrete will condense between the surface of the concrete amd the polypropylene. This layer will prevent further moisture from migrating out of the concrete. The generation of mold or mildew underneath the LocPlate® products is very unlikely. Mold and mildew need three things to grow: food sources, moisture and mold spores. On concrete, the LocPlate® products allow the removal of a least two of the potential sources of mold and mildew growth. If the concrete is cleaned before the installation, any food source is gone and if there are no big cracks or steps in the floor, there will be limited or no airflow which is necessary for the spreading of the spores.

Q :
Can modular furniture work with this system?
A :
Yes. TacFast® products are an excellent complement to a systems or modular furniture installation.

Q :
Is TacFast aware of the Corporate Tax advantages to free-floating systems?
A :
The tax treatment may be considered to be an operational expense versus a capital allocation but this will vary from country to country.

Q :
How is TacFast® a remedy for VAT abatement issues?
A :

TacFast® LocPlate® products utilize polypropylene Hook Plates and Discs that when installed become a free-floating, modular substrate that is basically a new subfloor. As no attachment to the existing flooring is required, the LocPlate® products can be installed directly over existing vinyl ® products using the mechanical fastening of hook and loop engagement. LocPlate™products are warranted to last for 25 years. This will result in the replacement of the surface products only over the 25-year lifespan of the Hook Plates and Discs. The clean and easy replacement of the surfaces can take place without ever disturbing the VAT below the Hook Plates and Discs.

After 25 years, should the Hook Plates and Discs require replacement, they can be easily lifted without distrubing the VAT below as they were never attached to the VAT. The removed Hook Plates and Discs can be recycled into new Hook Plates and Discs, closing the loop. New Hook Plates and Discs can be reinstalled over the VAT for another 25-year period.

Q :
What is dematerialization and how does TacFast contribute to it?
A :

Dematerialization in flooring refers to the absolute or relative reduction in the quantity of materials and energy required to complete a flooring installation.

TacFast® LocPlate® products contribute to the dematerialization in flooring installations throughout the 25-year warranted life span of the product. Whether it is a new installation or a renovation/retrofit, the LocPlate® products always use less materials and energy from start to finish of the installation.

The LocPlate® Product

  • LocPlate® products are made of inert polypropylene resins which are the same resins which are that are used in the manufacturing of food containers
  • There are no harmful emissions in the manufacturing process
  • LocPlate® products are cradle-to-cradle and can be recycled in a closed loop process taking old Hook Plates and Discs and creating new ones
  • Recycled content and fillers may be added to the LocPlate® products; however, this may shorten the life span of the product due to loss in hook integrity/performance. This also eliminates the ability to have closed loop recycling of the LocPlate® products at the end of their life span.

Installation of LocPlate® Products

  • LocPlate® products can be installed directly over top of exisiting flooring
  • LocPlate® products can be installed with minimal or no subfloor preparation for the first installation
  • LocPlate® products do not require any subfloor preparation for 2nd installations and thereafter
  • LocPlate® products can be installed over moist/wet concrete without any need to incur any moisture remediation costs or materials
  • LocPlate® products are free-floating and do not require attachment to the subfloor so at the end of their life span (they are warranted to last for 25 years) they can be easily lifted, removed and recycled back into new LocPlate® products
  • The installation method of the surface to the LocPlate® substrate is by mechanical fastening using hook and loop technology which is releasable
  • When surface products become damaged they can be easily replaced by simply lifting the damaged piece and replacing it with a new one. This is a quick, clean and easy process which can be taken care of by internal maintenance staff thereby eliminating the need to have the installation contractors return to the site to do the work
  • When the flooring surface needs to be replaced at the end of its life span, the products can be easily and cleanly removed by breaking the hook and loop mechanical bond.  The surfaces come up without having to break or destroy them. This allows the surface products to be donated, reused or repurposed. It keeps the area clean from the contamination of breaking or pulverizing the old floor and scraping up old adhesives releasing particles into the air and HVAC systems.
  • The new surface materials can be installed directly over the exising Hook Plates and Discs without any subfloor preparation. This eliminates the conventional need to scrape and reprep the subfloor, by using machinery or chemicals, and then spread adhesive again for the next surface installation.
  • Areas can be reconfigured easily by simply lifting surfaces from one area and installing them over the Hook Plates and Discs in another area (ie. widening of aisle ways, moving departments, expanding or contracting merchandising areas). This minimizes the waste of removing and disposing of surface materials and replacing them with the same but new surfaces in other areas as TacFast products are releasable and remain intact without contamination for installation catalysts.

In summary, after the first installation of the Hook Plates and Discs, for at least the next 25 years, the only materials that will be used in a TacFast installation will be the replacement of the surface products. The only "waste" will be the removal of the "old" surface products that will be removed intact. This allows those surfaces to be removed cleanly, efficiently, without the need or use of chemicals or machinery. This results in the reusability of the surfaces or the clean disposal/recycling of the products. Conventional installations require more time (energy), more materials and the methods used often contribute to considerable waste and mess. Comparatively, TacFast installations use less time, energy, materials, chemicals, etc., resulting in dematerialization in the installation of flooring products contributing to a more sustainable environment.
